Position Summary: The Mental Health Professional is responsible for providing approved MHR services to recipients assigned to them.
Qualifications:
- Has a Master of Social Work a degree or a Master of Arts degree in a mental health related field or a master of Science degree in a mental health related field or a Master of Education degree in a mental health related field
- Has a minimum of 15 hours of graduate level course work and/or practicum experience in applied intervention strategies/methods designed to address behavioral and/or emotional and/or mental problems. These hours may be obtained as a part of or in addition to the Master’s degree.
Major Task List:
- Provides community support work to recipients, as assigned
- Provides individual and/or group counseling to recipients, as assigned
- May provide Group Psychosocial Skills Training to recipients, as assigned
- Participates in staff training assignments, as requested
- Assess, review or monitor a recipient’s status in relation to rehabilitation
- Identify, report and maintain weekly appointments for community resources
- Submit accurate, legible and complete weekly counseling notes and service logs
- Arrange appointments and transportation for recipient’s psychiatrist visits
- Participates in the agency’s Performance Improvement initiative
- Attend/conduct weekly staffing
- Assist and positively interact with other team members
- Works independently, as needed
- Functions well in a crisis
- Accepts supervision
- Returns calls promptly
- Assists with other projects related to agency operation, as requested
- Attends all scheduled staff trainings, team meetings, etc…
- Understands, acknowledges and agrees to adhere to Medicaid.
- Acknowledges responsibility to participate in agency growth.

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Position Summary: The Licensed Mental Health Professional provides leadership for the agency
Qualifications:(as defined by the MHR rule)
A) A Licensed Mental Health Professional is a person who has a graduate degree in a mental health-related field from an accredited institution and is licensed to practice in the state of Louisiana by the applicable professional board of examiners. The following professionals are considered to be LMHPs:
- Psychiatrist
- Licensed medical doctor who is board-certified or board eligible ( a board-eligible psychiatrist must meet other requirements)
- Authorized to practice psychiatry in Texas
- Enrolled to participate in the Texas Medicaid Program
- Psychologist
- Licensed as a practicing psychologist in the State of Texas
- Registered Nurse
- Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Texas by the Board of Nursing
- Be a graduate of an accredited program in psychiatric nursing and have 2 years of postmaster’s supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services; OR have a master’s degree in nursing or a master’s degree in a mental health-related field and 2 years of supervised post master’s experience in the delivery of mental health services
- Has 6 CEUs regarding the use of psychotropic medications, including typical, prior to provision of direct service to MHR recipients
- Social Worker
- Has a master’s degree in social work from an accredited school or university
- Is a licensed clinical social worker
- Licensed Professional Counselor
- Has a master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work
- Is a licensed clinical social worker in the State of Texas
- Has two years post-masters experience in mental health
B) Additional required experience:
- At least two (2) years experience working with children with emotional/behavioral problems
- At least two (2) years experience working with adults with serious mental illness
Major Task List:
- Provides lead responsibility on MHR assessment team for each assigned consumer in which services are rendered. (Includes a minimum of 1 face-to-face interview with the recipient and their family/significant other, sign and date the assessment document, develop the integrated summary section and sign)
- or completes initial assessment as independent assignment without assuming any responsibility for client after authorization has been received.
- Administer and score CANS/ANSAS (must be an Approved Clinical Evaluator)
- Act as team leader of the service planning team, sign and date the ISRP and Quarterly Report
- Provide crisis intervention services for community support staff as needed
- Notify the provider’s staff psychiatrist of any significant change in a recipient’s physical or mental status
- Provides all core services except medication management, when needed to fulfill the approved service agreement
- Assures that all activity plans are developed and implemented
- Coordinates all services for the MHR recipient. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Assurance of active recipient involvement in all aspects of care
- Coordination and management of all services provided through MHR agency
- Access and coordination of services provided through non-MHR agencies
- Completes Initial Screening of prospective recipients
- Supervises all non-licensed mental health staff that serve as a member of his/her assigned recipients’ team, meeting the supervision requirements of the MHR program
- Evaluates charts of a representative sample of caseload quarterly
- Consults with physician, nurses and other clinic personnel and community agency personnel to develop social diagnosis and plan of treatment or service and to interpret psycho-social factors related to illness, treatment and continuity of care needs.
- Submits legible logs after seeing recipient with proper documentation and appropriate signatures
- Returns calls promptly
- Must be aware of all persons referred to other agencies, e.g. all discharges and clients not meeting the Medical Necessity
